About This Program
Program Overview:
Health care professionals who are sensitive and attentive to their patient’s cultural beliefs and values have patients who are more likely to adhere to treatment regimens and return for follow up visits. The BESAFE continuing education program trains health care providers on how to use the BESAFE model to provide culturally appropriate care to minority patients living with HIV/AIDS. The BESAFE model was developed by the AIDS Education and Training Center National Minority Center at the Howard School of Medicine (www.aetcnmc.org). This training focuses on HIV/AIDS; however, the BESAFE model of cultural fluency in provider care can be applied to all patient care, regardless of disease state.
Program Outcome:
The information presented in this educational program should improve your ability to provide culturally appropriate medical care for minority patients, especially those living with HIV/AIDS.
Sponsorship:
This program is Jointly Sponsored by The Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the AIDS Education and Training Center National Minority Center at the Howard School of Medicine. There is no fee for the CME or CPE credits for this program.
